Our first rainy day in Italy began as it should. We overslept. Kathy couldn't believe it was 11am when we finally woke up. We soaked sweet, hard biscotti in steaming espresso for breakfast and settled in to spend the day in La Boncia. While we ate breakfast, it actually hailed outside, making us Texans feel right at home.
We decided to use the day to plan out the remaining week, choose which places we would visit, and map out the routes that would take us there. So we spread our maps and guidebooks over the dining table, and Kathy made a delicious lunch of tuna salad with local olives on a bed of fresh arugula (recola in Italian). We cracked the first bottle of wine around noon and didn't stop eating and drinking all day.
